An update from U.S. Bank Consumer and Business Banking Vice Chair Tim Welsh

March 19, 2020

We are in the midst of an unprecedented time, and the well-being of our customers, colleagues and communities continues to be our top priority as we respond to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus. We cannot begin to express our gratitude to our amazing colleagues for all they have been doing, and continue to do, to care for one another and for our customers. And we extend our gratitude to our gracious, dedicated customers for their flexibility and understanding as we move together through this evolving situation.

Banking has been defined as a service – like healthcare and grocery providers – that is essential to society. And as an essential service, we must strike the right balance between continuing to serve the banking needs of our customers, while supporting public health efforts and ensuring the safety of our employees. That is a challenging needle to thread.

One of the true strengths and unique differentiators we have across our branch network is that we have hundreds of locations with drive through windows. This provides us with a safer service option for our customers and our colleagues. In addition, our in-store network also gives us an opportunity to serve customers while they are already doing a necessary grocery trip, without adding an additional stop.

Beginning today, across the country, we will begin temporarily adjusting the operations for our branches. The goal is for us to quickly take steps to further promote the safety of our customers and colleagues. We will do this by decreasing lobby usage, encouraging drive through use, and consolidating operations, while maintaining access, in markets where we don’t have a significant drive through presence.

Once again, we sincerely thank our customers and our dedicated colleagues for all they are doing for one another during this difficult time.
